Tripods Trilogy (The White Mountains / The City of Gold and Lead / The Pool of Fire)

Long ago the Tripods, gigantic three-legged machines, descended upon Earth and took control. They used "Caps," administered ceremoniously near each child's 14th birthday, to control humans' brains and keep them docile. Now there is pleasant life in villages, little technology, and no war--but there is no freedom either. In this powerful and suspenseful series, 13-year-old Will Parker and his friends deal with hunger, humanity, envy, and pride as they struggle to find out all they can about the Tripods and overthrow their rule. Written by John Christopher, author of many juvenile science fiction and fantasy books, The Tripods Trilogy is sure to make a science fiction fan out of any reader--young or old. This box set of paperbacks includes The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, and The Pool of Fire, the chilling conclusion to the series that poses the question: Who would rule the world if it were freed from the aliens? Thank You, U.S. Navy Medical Staff from all Marines past, present, and future 4678

Thank You, U.S. Navy Medical Staff from all Marines past, present, and future 4678

Today I lunched with a doctor who left the U.S. Navy after serving nine years. What a wonderful lady she is. The U.S. Marine Corp has no medical staff of its own but relies on the excellent services of corpmen, nurses and doctors serving in the U.S. Navy.

This summer I had been so impressed to read "On Call In Hell". It is a 2007 book by Commander Richard Jadick, D.O., U.S. Navy. He tells of volunteering to accompany the First Battalion, Eighth Marine Regiment to Iraq in June 2004, and shipping out five days after the birth of his daughter. When his unit took the center of Fallujah in Nov. and Dec. 2004, that was some of the bloodiest episodes of the war, with some of the worst urban combat seen by American troops in decades. Doc Jadick was the senior medical officer for the battallion. He was the primary-care doctor for roughly 1000 Marines. As men fell and were brought in by corpsmen and others for medical aid, Doc and his corpman performed miracles. As the battle moved deeper into the city, Doc and his operating staff moved real close to the fighting. Doc theorized and made work the idea that the closer medical help was to the wounded, the better chance of keeping them alive to return to duty or family, but not yet to GOD. His book is an inspiring story of entering the fray up close and personal, saving many lives in bloody wartime triage. It is a compelling account of courage under fire. This snap shot of the war portrays brothers in arms. Saving those lives was so important to Doctor and his staff. His medical team's courage and valor under fire is wrenching, uplifting, and impossible to forget.

Past&Future[Day8]*

Today, has been one of those days. Good but shitty[?]. Yeah that's right. We got our "THE SHEET" -- we need to select our classes for Senior year. I'm really down to do "college" next year, then I don't wanna. I know I'm smart but, I'm also a huge slacker when it comes to homework. But, then again my prefectionist ways make me turn stuff in late because the time didn't allow me to be perfect enough.

Anyways the reason for this picture is I was thinking about what I did before I got into Art/Photography. I was really into soccer, I know I could have got into a good college for playing it. But, no, I stopped. No I don't really regret it but, was it a mistake? This kinda shows me being numb at the ups and downs of life just wishing it'd stay steady. Whoa, long description, ..sorry[?]. OHHH, also I love the way the lighting and my room and long exposure make the colors!

The Futures: The Rise of the Speculator and the Origins of the World's Biggest Markets

In The Futures, Emily Lambert, senior writer at Forbes magazine, tells us the rich and dramatic history of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade, which together comprised the original, most bustling futures market in the world. She details the emergence of the futures business as a kind of meeting place for gamblers and farmers and its subsequent transformation into a sophisticated electronic market where contracts are traded at lightning-fast speeds. Lambert also details the disastrous effects of Wall Street's adoption of the futures contract without the rules and close-knit social bonds that had made trading it in Chicago work so well. Ultimately Lambert argues that the futures markets are the real "free" markets and that speculators, far from being mere parasites, can serve a vital economic and social function given the right architecture. The traditional futures market, she explains, because of its written and cultural limits, can serve as a useful example for how markets ought to work and become a tonic for our current financial ills.
